Creamy Healthy Maca Smoothie Bowl

Have you heard about Maca??  No, not MATCHA…MACA, totally different superfood!  I recently discovered Maca because I kept confusing it with Matcha…silly me!  I was on the hunt for a Matcha powder so that I could make Starbucks Matcha lattes at home to feed my cravings (and save money), add superfoods to my nutritional routine and to kick my coffee habit.

I discovered that Maca is pretty amazing and actually tastes really good.  Which in my opinion is the most important…if it doesn’t taste good, I probably won’t be eating it very much.

Maca powder is a pretty amazing addition to smoothies and lattes because it is packed with tons of health benefits. It can reduce anxiety, boosts energy, enhance mood and Memory. These are huge for me since I’ve always struggled with anxiety and brain fog.  I would basically eat or drink anything that promises to clear up these conditions because they affect my performance, my mood, and I just want to be sparkly all day every day.  Beware though that Maca can also affect hormones so consult your doctor if you struggle with any kind of hormone imbalance.

Health Benefits of Maca

  • Increased athletic stamina
  • Growth and renewal of skin cells helping your skin to look healthier
  • Reduces depression and anxiety in women Read this article for more about how Maca affects mood source: https://www.themacateam.com/maca-for-depression/
  • Positively effects men’s testosterone
  • And contains antioxidants to help your body fight disease
  • Improves hair growth
  • Improves skin tone
  • Helps fight acne… when it is related to a hormone imbalance

With all these health benefits I can predict that Maca will be the next superfood craze…especially when you taste it in this amazingly smooth, creamy and sweet Smoothie Bowl recipe.  It’s not hard to add it to your daily nutritional routine when it tastes this good!

Magic Glow Tea

I’ve always had stomach issue for as long as I can remember.  I remember being a kid and frequently lying in bed awake with painful gas and bloating because the foods I was eating were not agreeing with my digestive system.  Back then I had no idea it was because I shouldn’t be eating certain foods but as an adult, I have begun to realize that I cant just eat a McDonald’s super-sized #2 and feel great afterwards. I envy those of you who can.

In my experience I’ve had to cut out certain foods…Even though from time to time I still eat things that my body rejects (and boy do I pay the price for it), But how can you turn down tacos El Pastor and a Coke after a late night out on the Las Vegas Strip?!  Has anyone been to Tacos El Gordo???! Its not to be missed when you visit Vegas!!

I’ve had to come up with alternatives to my favorite childhood foods because at this point in my life, it just isn’t worth all of the pain.  Plus, I’ve discovered that eating whole, raw and organic foods contribute to having less breakouts, more energy, better quality sleep and a flat stomach, a better mood…the list goes on.  So maybe eating “rabbit food” isn’t so bad after all.

No matter what I choose to eat through out the day I always start my morning out with a cup of Ginger Turmeric Tea.  This tea is packed with antioxidants and nutrients that help my tummy feel good all day and keep my skin glowing and breakout free.  The best part is that it tastes great, the ingredients are inexpensive and simple to make.  Unlike the Celery juice that I tried to do.

Before I get into the how…Let’s talk about all the sparkly benefits of this powerful little tea.

First off, did you know that Ginger has about 40 antioxidant compounds?  It originates from China and India where the culture uses a lot of flagrant spices in their cooking. I have to say that for this reason Asian food is probably my favorite.  I love a plate of food rich in vegetables and strong spices, which is probably why I love this tea so much.

The compounds found in Ginger include vitamin c, carotene, gingerol ginger and other vitamins and minerals that help to protect your cells from damage.

The health benefits are enough to make anyone run out to the store and grab a piece of this miracle root.  Benefits include:

Boosts metabolism by stimulating the digestive system

Helps relieve bloating and stomach cramps

Aids in relieving morning sickness, nausea and motion sickness

Helps with weightless because it manages blood sugar levels which reduces over eating

There are also topical benefits when used on the skin such as Fades scars and heals burns, but in this post,  we will discuss the internal benefits.  I will be publishing another post about the beauty benefits of Ginger later.

That sounds like a lot of great reasons to consume ginger on a daily basis, right?  But we’ve just gotten started, lets look at the benefits in Turmeric. These 2 miracle roots , when consumed daily give your body a massive boost.

Turmeric is a natural inflammatory

                Helps prevent gas and bloating

                Heals stomach ulcers

                Improves skin conditions

Aids in fat metabolism and weight loss

With all these health benefits its no wonder we have been seeing a rise in the use of these awesome roots.  I love drinking this tea everyday in place of my morning coffee which I sadly discovered is highly acidic and can contribute to leaky gut.

In an effort to feel good in this body I was given and Stay Sparkly, I have slowly been replacing my morning coffee with this awesome recipe:

Hot water

1-inch of fresh peeled ginger grated

1 tablespoon ground turmeric

Squeeze of lemon

1 table spoon raw organic honey

Optional 1 teaspoon Apple cider vinegar (if that’s your thing)

Add all ingredients to the hot water, let steep 5 minutes and enjoy.

I do have to warn you that this tea can be a bit “chunky”  the ground turmeric does not exactly dissolve, and the grated ginger can be a little annoying.  You can either strain the chunks out or allow them to settle to the bottom of your cup and avoid stirring so that you don’t get the murky paste in your mouth.  I personally don’t mind it and I kind of enjoy crunching one the grated ginger…but I also LOVE the flavor of ginger.

I hope this helps in your journey to feeling your best.  Please check out my YouTube video for a demonstration and leave me comment letting know if you’ve tried this recipe and what you think about it.

Celery Juice Challenge

I have you head about this Celery Juice Challenge the “kids” are doing these days? No it’s not like the Cinnamon challenge or the Tide pod challenge.  It is actually a really great one to try.  I originally discovered the Celery Juice Challenge from a Youtube channel called Ohhmyannie.  She mentioned in a few of her videos about how drinking Celery Juice on an empty stomach helped her with her anxiety, weight loss and to have clearer skin. With all those health benefits, I just had to try it myself.

I ran out to my local Sprouts store immediately and bought 4 stalks of Celery.

The next day my Hubby and I jumped in feet first and didn’t look back.

For the first few days it really wasn’t so bad. Then around the 3rd day we must have got a hold of a really robust batch of celery because the taste was STRONG and almost overpowering.

Check out the Video about my experience on Youtube.

7 Benefits of Celery Juice

The Celery Juice craze was started by Anthony Williams who also goes by “Medical Medium”.  He claims that drinking Celery Juice first thing in the morning can:

  1. Reduces inflammation in the body
  2. Lower blood pressure and help with Cardiovascular health
  3. Fights cancer
  4. Detoxes the body
  5. Helps with skin problems like acne
  6. Gives the body electrolytes that help with recovery
  7. Enhances sleep

For more information about all things Celery visit his site:

I’ve only drank Celery Juice for 8 days (so far) so I didn’t exactly experience a drastic change in my body, but on the 7th day I did notice that the swelling in my hands I was experiencing that morning from eating too much salt the night before magically vanished when I took my first sip.  After that I am hooked and I will be continuing to drink Celery Juice for as long as I can afford it (its getting a little pricy at $4 a day per person).

How to do the Celery Juice Challenge

The best part of this craze is how simple it is.  All you have to do is juice the Celery in a Juicer or blend it in a blender then strain it in a nut milk bag or cheese cloth and drink it first thing in the morning before eating or drinking anything else…That’s it!

The flavor isn’t too bad (unless you get a strong batch of Celery like I did)

Give it a try and let me know what health benefits your saw after drinking Celery Juice for 7 days
